Cosmetic Bonding

If you have chipped, stained, or unwanted spaces between your teeth, cosmetic dental bonding may be the best option for restoring your smile. With benefits similar to those of porcelain veneers or porcelain crowns, this conservative restorative treatment can preserve and match your natural teeth with beautiful results. Dr. Cathy Santone and Dr. Megan Dietz can usually complete cosmetic bonding in a single office visit.

What is Cosmetic Bonding?

Cosmetic bonding uses a high-quality composite dental material to repair or conceal a wide range of common cosmetic concerns. This dental resin is applied to the affected teeth, custom-shaped to optimize the tooth’s appearance, and polished to look like your natural tooth enamel. The material used during the cosmetic bonding procedure is also designed to match the color of your adjacent teeth for a seamless, beautiful smile.

Benefits of Cosmetic Bonding

As an extremely versatile treatment for fixing cracks, discolorations, and misalignments, cosmetic bonding allows Dr. Santone and Dr. Dietz to preserve a majority of the natural tooth while improving the overall aesthetics of our patients’ smiles. The benefits of cosmetic bonding can include:

In addition, many of our patients report that they feel a renewed sense of confidence in their appearance and take pride in their new smile.

The Cosmetic Bonding Procedure

Dr. Santone and Dr. Dietz begin preparing the tooth for bonding by applying a specialized cleaning agent to the affected area. A strong bonding agent is applied to the tooth so the tooth-colored filling material will adhere to the tooth. The tooth-colored material is layered and cosmetically sculpted on the tooth, replacing the missing layers of tooth structure (the enamel and dentin). A laser or LED light (or bright blue light) is then used to cure or harden the tooth-colored material. During the final step, Dr. Santone or Dr. Dietz will shape and polish the tooth to match the surrounding teeth. The bonded tooth will look and function exactly like a natural tooth, restoring a healthy glow to our patients’ smiles.
